A springtime of fundraisers to support Special Forces Families
We don’t know about you, but we love spring and early summer. It’s the season when all of us who care about Special Forces Families come together often and with great energy to show some love and to raise vital funding for the programs of Special Forces Charitable Trust. We’ve had Green Berets like Ivan Castro running through the Sahara Desert in Morocco and Green Berets Shawn and Chris hiking 30 miles of the Appalachian Trail for SFCT. And that’s just the start! In the coming weeks, our supporters will help us raise money with a sporting clays event in Atlanta, a motorcycle benefit run near San Antonio, Texas, a Military Appreciation Day in Dyersville, Iowa, and the Master Sgt. Gary Gordon, Medal of Honor recipient, Memorial 5K in Lincoln, Maine.
We’d love for you to join us for one of these events, but if you can’t know that we welcome your support any time of year!
Here are the details:
Atlanta Sporting Clays. This May 9 event will be at the Burge Plantation, and begins at noon with lunch. Teams will begin shooting clay pigeons at 1:30 p.m., and dinner, auction and awards will be in the evening. Ivan Castro will be the guest speaker, and those staying at the Burge Plantation cabins will have the chance to enjoy fireside stories with Special Forces members. You can get more information or donate here.
Special Forces Brotherhood Motorcycle Club Benefit Run. Do you ride? Do you live near San Antonio? The club’s event will be May 11 to benefit both the SFCT and American Cancer Society. The event begins at 9 AM at Javelina Harley-Davidson, 29078 I-10 West Exit 546 in Boerne, with registration. Kickstands up at 10:30 a.m. There will be vendors, music, prizes for sponsors and a silent auction.
Military Appreciation Day. Half of the proceeds from this June 1 event will come to SFCT! This event will be at the site in Dyersville, Iowa, where the movie Field of Dreams was filmed 30 years ago. There will be music, military vehicles and equipment, food vendors, a bounce house for children, and a softball game between Green Berets and civilians. More information is available here.
Master Sgt. Gary Gordon MOH 5K Run/Walk. This June 29 event is in Lincoln, Maine, the hometown of Medal of Honor Recipient Sgt. Gary Gordon. Gordon, a Green Beret, died during Operation Gothic Serpent in 1993. Support the construction of a memorial honoring Gordon and all the Heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice during the operation. The event begins at 9 a.m. More information is available here.
